FAQ

What is a bridal slip?

Bridal slip is a wedding undergarment for a bride. In other words, bridal slip can be called bridal petticoat.

The goal of bridal slip is to help your dress look better on you, give your legs space to walk,  to volume the wedding dress and to prevent your leg skin from scratching with dress fabric.

There are different types of bridal slip depending on what type of wedding dress you have: a-line, mermaid, train, two-hoops, three- hoops.

Bridal slip is also an amazing outfit for a bride on the morning of a wedding while she is getting ready with her wedding makeup.

Why is it called a slip dress?

A slip dress is called a slip dress because of its origin.
Prehistory: Since the 17th century a slip was primarily undergarment worn under sheer dresses but it was more massive with long sleeves ( think of Marie Antoinette style).

The most similar design to today’s slip dresses originated in the beginning of the 19th century when one-piece sleeveless undergarments appeared.  This slip used princess cut to shape the bodice and skirt by vertical seaming. That’s why it was called princess slip.

The purpose of slip was to have a smooth line of silk between skin and dress and be seen.

In the beginning of the 20th century the undergarment with stripes was called just slip. Around that time slips started to be worn outside and embodied the “underwear as outerwear” trend.

Now the silk or satin dress, which shapes the bodice and skirt by vertical seams and has two spaghetti straps is called a slip dress.

Are slip dresses in style 2021?

Slip dresses are very much in style in the 2021 season and for lots of next seasons for sure, at least till we have 90’s nostalgia.

Slip dresses are very light and the feeling of silk fabric on your skin when you put on a slip dress is just divine.

Because slip dresses are so easy, you can wear them both inside at home and out in the world for special events or celebrations.

Moreover, slip dresses are suitable in your wardrobe for every season. Style slip dresses with accessories and right shoes in summer and add some cozy stylish layerings to slip dresses in cold seasons.

If you are scared that your slip dress may look like lingerie, opt for heavier fabrics and darker deeper colours when choosing your perfect slip dress.
